"If the newly declassified intelligence released by the administration is accurate, it reveals a deeply troubling national security failure that demands immediate attention from Congress and the American people. The allegations that the People's Republic of China obtained sensitive information related to millions of American voter records underscore the growing threats posed by hostile foreign adversaries. These allegations must be thoroughly investigated, and our election infrastructure must be strengthened wherever vulnerabilities exist.
Election security is national security. Every American deserves confidence that our elections are secure, our voter information is protected, and every lawful vote is safeguarded.
Congress should immediately take meaningful action to strengthen election integrity, including passage of the SAFEGUARD American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. Requiring documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections is an important step toward ensuring that only United States citizens participate in federal elections and toward reinforcing public confidence in our electoral system.
Delaware voters, like all Americans, deserve elections that are secure, transparent, and worthy of the public's trust. Protecting our elections is not a partisan issue — it is a fundamental responsibility of the federal government. I urge members of Congress from both parties to investigate these allegations, strengthen our election security, protect American voter information, and act without delay to restore confidence in the integrity of our democratic process."
