WILMINGTON, DE — Dr. Mike Katz today announced the endorsement of State Representative Danny Short, longtime member of the Delaware House of Representatives from the 39th District and former House Minority Leader. Rep. Short's endorsement adds a veteran statewide Republican voice — and firsthand institutional knowledge of Dr. Katz's service in Dover — to the growing coalition backing the Katz campaign.

Rep. Short pointed to Dr. Katz's record as a State Senator and his ability to build the coalition Republicans need to win statewide.

"I had the opportunity to serve alongside Dr. Mike while he was in the Delaware State Senate, and I came to know him as someone who takes public service seriously. He studies the issues, asks tough questions, and isn't afraid to challenge the status quo when he believes Delaware taxpayers deserve better."

— State Rep. Danny Short

"Throughout our time serving together, I saw firsthand his commitment to fiscal responsibility, government accountability, individual liberty, and practical problem-solving. Mike has never been interested in politics for politics' sake. He has always focused on results."

— State Rep. Danny Short

Rep. Short framed the 2026 Senate race as an inflection point for restoring balance in Delaware government, and argued that a strong statewide campaign helps Republican legislative candidates across the state.

"Today, Delaware faces serious challenges. One-party rule has created a lack of balance and accountability in Dover. Healthy government depends on thoughtful debate, strong oversight, and leaders who are willing to ask difficult questions and stand up for taxpayers."

— State Rep. Danny Short

"I believe Dr. Mike Katz gives Republicans our strongest opportunity to defeat Chris Coons and build the broad coalition necessary to win a statewide election. Just as importantly, a strong Senate campaign will help Republican candidates across Delaware by increasing voter turnout in legislative races."

— State Rep. Danny Short

"I do not give my endorsement lightly. After serving with Mike and watching his leadership firsthand, I am confident he has the experience, judgment, integrity, and work ethic to represent Delaware well in the United States Senate."

— State Rep. Danny Short

Dr. Katz expressed his gratitude for Rep. Short's support.

"Danny Short is one of the most respected voices in Dover, and I know from serving alongside him what his endorsement means. Danny is a straight shooter who has spent his career fighting for accountability, fiscal discipline, and Delaware taxpayers. I am proud to have his support, and I will carry that same seriousness to the United States Senate."

— Dr. Mike Katz

Rep. Short's endorsement joins a rapidly growing coalition of Republican leaders and grassroots organizations backing Dr. Katz's candidacy, including America First Insight, Trump-endorsed former U.S. Attorney and former Delaware GOP Chair Julianne Murray, the Delaware Republican Party, the Independent Party of Delaware, the Northern New Castle County Republican Party, the national College Republicans of America, the Delaware College Republicans, former two-time Republican congressional nominee Lee Murphy, State Senator Dave Lawson, and other state and county Republican officials.

Dr. Katz faces the Republican primary election on September 15, 2026 against former U.S. Army Colonel John Shulli. The winner advances to the November general election against incumbent Senator Chris Coons.
